By 2006 computers were rarely manufactured with installed floppy disk drives; 3 1 ⁄ 2-inch floppy disks can be used with an external USB floppy disk drive, but USB drives for 5 1 ⁄ 4-inch, 8-inch, and non-standard diskettes are rare to non-existent. These formats are usually handled by older equipment. A floppy disk hardware emulator is a device that emulates a mechanical floppy disk drive with a solid state or network storage device that is plug compatible with the drive it replaces, similar to how solid-state drives replace mechanical hard disk drives. Locate the device that is having the issue and double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box. Click the Driver tab. Click the Uninstall button and follow the instructions.

Hi,

I understand that the floppy drive is not shown in the Windows Explorer on your Windows 8.1 computer, though it is listed in the “Device Manager”. It would be great if you can provide more information regarding this issue:

1)Is your computer custom-built?

2)Are you using the external USB floppy drive? What is the make and model?

3)Which was the previous operating system that you used on this computer prior to Windows 8.1? Was the floppy drive working properly in the previous operating system?

4)How did you reinstall the drivers for the floppy drive? Did you download and install it from the ASRock website?

Please try these steps and check if that helps.

Method 1: Check if the Floppy drive is shown in “Disk Management” and if a drive letter is assigned to it

Please open the Disk Management and check if a drive letter is assigned to the floppy drive. Please follow these steps, to access the disk management:

a)Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard and select “Disk Management” from that list.

b)You should be able to see the hard disk partitions and the removable drives connected to the computer in the Disk Management.

c)Check if you have any drives without any drive letters assigned to it.

d)If you have floppy drive listed there without a drive letter, then you may assign the drive letter (A) to it and check if that is shown in “This PC” now and then try to access it from the “Windows Explorer”.

Download ubuntu 10.04 dvd iso 32 bit. Method 2: Uninstall and Reinstall the Floppy Disk Drivers from the Device Manager

a)Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard.

b)Click on “Device Manager” from that list.

c)Search for the Floppy Disk device from the device list, right click on it and then select “Uninstall”. On the un-installation window, if you have an option: “Delete the driver software for this device” you may select that and then remove the corrupted drivers from the computer.

d)Follow the on-screen instructions to complete it and the restart the computer if prompted.

e)While the computer is shutting down, you may unplug the device and then re-plug the device once the Windows 8.1 is loaded on the computer.

f)Again go to “Device Manager” and then click on the “Scan for hardware changes” button.

g)Check if Windows 8.1 detects the Floppy Disk device and installs an appropriate driver automatically.

If the issue still persists, then try the next method.

Method 3: Update the Drivers from the ASRock website

You may download and install the latest Windows 8.1 compatible SATA Floppy drivers (Ver: 12.8.0.1016) from the link given below and check if that resolves the issue.
